STERLING WILL BOUNCE BACK- GUARDIOLA.
The flying English attacker started the season in excellent form and now he is yet to score a goal this year (2020) due to form and injury occurrences.
Pep Guardiola is confident that the Englishman will get back to his old scoring form after a very difficult run of matches.
The Englishman enjoyed a great start to the season which included him scoring hat-trick against West Ham Utd and Atalanta.
However, Sterling has failed to score in 12 matches with his last of the 20 goals in all competitions coming in a premier league defeat against Wolves back in December.
A hamstring injury further disadvantaged the 25 year old Englishman and although he managed to change the game in City's champion's league game against Real Madrid and won a penalty which was converted by Kevin De Bruyn, he failed to make the same impact in the match on Sunday's 2-0 loss against Manchester Utd having missed a number of good opportunities and him having a miserable game.
Nevertheless, much like teammate Ederson who was the one with errors that led to both Manchester Utd goals, manager Guardiola has not lost any belief over Starling's ability and quality that will lead the Englishman back to his blistering best and that may happen on Wednesday night when Manchester City take on Arsenal.
Guardiola said, "Sterling is incredibly positive, especially when he misses one chance, he will push and try again."
"He was injured for about two to three weeks and sometimes, players need time before they can get back on their feet."
"I never was so much worried about the kinds of actions like what happened with Ederson in the Manchester Derby, such happens."
"These are the guys who suffer the most when such actions occur and they need our support to get them through these situations."
"Sometimes you speak with them and sometimes you just leave them free for they are so mature as to understand what they have to do."
City's attack was toothless at Old Trafford with only Jesus and Riyad Mahrez having brought some impact off the bench even though it wasn't enough to open that Manchester United defence.
Man City haven't been using Jesus as the striker but instead, he's been playing wide for the citizens which deploys Sterling into a central role of which he would play as a force number 9, which is an advantage and freshens his style of play. With also the way the Man City fullbacks play is very different that shows just how different Man City's kind of play.
Guardiola explained that Gabriel Jesus would develope quickly and better for he doesn't play wide wide, as he's movement are very critical with how Guardiola wants his players to play that allows his full backs to play like wingers.
"Gabriel can play a bit inside like the way Arsenal uses Aubameyang and Gabriel can play perfectly in that position and when he played, he played really well." Guardiola said.
With Leroy Sane, Man City's wing specialist, now fit from his knee injury is yet to make his long awaited return against Arsenal and we will see how Man City will fair with his return.
But Guardiola explained,"Sometimes we need to use more specific wingers in that position, but it depends on the quality of full backs."
He continued, "To attack a team playing with five defenders, we need to make the pitch wide because if that doesn't happen, it's quite difficult to play against them as compared to making the pitch wide."
